OUR IMPACT
The Spark of Purpose
Fast forward to 2020: the pandemic hit, and someone very close to my heart and family lost his job. This propelled me to thoroughly research the economic and environmental impact of junk shops.
Years into operating my own, I've gained a profound understanding of its immense positive influence on our community. We're not just reducing waste; we're fostering sustainable living and creating vital opportunities for our underserved sectors. From entry-level positions to higher-tier roles, this work provides meaningful employment, demonstrating tangible results in sustainability and environmental protection.
Our Impact and Future Vision
Energy can't be created or destroyed; it can only be changed from one form to another."
This fundamental principle has guided my journey, evolving from childhood fascination to a deep commitment to sustainability.
I vividly remember Kuya, the man who visited our neighborhood with his bike, delighting me as he purchased our plastics, newspapers, tin cans, and bottles. He was, in essence, one of the original frontline workers of the circular economy in our community – collecting, diverting, and giving new life to materials that would otherwise become waste. His small business, unfortunately, ceased after only a few months due to insufficient capital. Even as a child, I felt a pang of sadness for him, not fully understanding then the systemic challenges that could derail such a vital, grassroots effort.
His story, and countless others like it, underscore the critical need to support and empower these essential individuals who are at the very forefront of waste diversion and resource recovery, often with minimal resources themselves. They are the unsung heroes moving materials from our homes back into the economy, one bicycle load at a time
